How do i upload my photo, change my contact information or change my password?

Once signed in, all these changes can be made under the "Account Settings" link found in the top right hand navigation on any page.

How do i locate content within the LearnBME system?

Once signed in, navigation of course materials can be accomplished from the "Home" page in the following ways;

  • Search by Keywords (try typing in a tag in the search box. A drop down box will autofill as you type to show you similar keywords within the system)
  • Browse by Field of Study
  • Browse by Courses
  • Browse by Campus
  • Browse by Category

How do i upload course materials?

Once signed in, course materials in various formats can be uploaded to the LearnBME system for sharing with others by locating the "Upload" link in the top right hand navigation on any page.

All documents need

  • A title, referencing the course material
  • The course material document for upload (see allowed document types)
  • A field of study designating the area of research
  • A category within which the course material falls under (case study, syllabus etc.)
  • A related course within the bioengineering field of the UC system

Having provided these fields the users will be suggested a group of tags to associate with the document. This will enable re-discovery of this document in future searches. Users can also provide their own list of tags.

What are the allowed file formats for course material uploads?

The LearnBME system currently accepts the following file formats for upload;

What are tags?

A tag is a non-hierarchical keyword or term assigned to a piece of information (such as an internet bookmark, digital image, or computer file). This kind of metadata helps describe an item and allows it to be found again by browsing or searching. Tags are chosen informally and personally by the item's creator or by its viewer, depending on the system. On a website in which many users tag many items, this collection of tags becomes a folksonomy. (source: wikipedia/Tag_metadata)

Unable to auto-generate tags. Why not?

DOCx, PPTx, XLSx We are currently unable to auto suggest tags for openxml documents due to restraints on extracting content from them in an automated way. Converting these files to a doc, ppt or xls format will tend to resolve this issue.

PDF Issues with pdf's generally tend to stem from some form of security measures encoded into the file itself. Please ensure that the file is not locked and editable upon upload.

How do i keep track of my uploads?

Once signed in, you can view and track your previous uploads under the "My Materials" link in the top right hand navigation on any page. You can also delete your own content from within this section.
